Allegiant Canine boarding partner Animal Care Center of Carter’s Creek had a little grand opening to unveil their new facility, which was super legit!

I spent about 3 hrs there getting mesmerized by the dogs playing, and it was super nice. We start our first student in this location Monday, and this is who I will be using from now on.

I have been consistently treated with respect and openness from this community, and I really appreciate the professionalism of all the doctors at ACCCC!

Boarding rates are as follows:
Standard Suite $50
Indoor/Outdoor Suite $65
Luxury Themed Suites $75

So add $100 to each of these numbers and then multiply times two or four weeks.

Radnor and Beau had a blast playing today. Today’s session started off with a single aversive punishment for Beau losing his mind at the door, he redirected *himself* to the couch where he received pets from me, and then we were cool and the arousal was all gone.

Very shortly we talked about the nature of the ecollar and the communication system, and then we were ready for action.

I just am so proud of these families for their dedication to their dogs happiness and emotional state!

I have probably changed a lot in my perspectives on structured walking, loose leash walking, heel, and free walking.

I think today, it doesn’t really matter if your dog walks in front of you or beside you as long as they’re not pulling or dragging you.

It’s a human construct in the sense that the dog needs to stay close, but it’s also a dog construct in the sense that it turns on that pack drive. But she knows I’m not a dog…

Annie had gotten to the point that she was pulling a LOT, so we did one little 4 min session where I delivered one aversive punishment for forging.

She didn’t just stop forging, she started checking in alittle more and stopped the constant side switching.

@cochrank9training posted a really helpful infographic the other day about how punishment leaves open a space for the dog to redirect and offer on their own. I’ve said it for years, but I love the way he put it.

Anyway, if you’re wondering how you should walk your dog, I think it depends a lot on environment and personal preference, as long as you’re moving in confidence, competence, and with clarity.

Take them outside and play fetch and chase in your fenced yard and let them see you not putting any relevance on them. Watch them look how you’re reacting and just learning that it doesn’t matter. Dogs are resilient, intelligent, and way better at coping than we are. Stop the bullshit coddling.

I think there’s a movement in balanced training to try to make the ecollar seem like we’re never going to use it as punishment. This is a lie.

We learned that Frankie does not have recall in a backyard this morning, so we had to pull out Mila’s 4 year old herding commands to put pressure on her till we wore her down. Long leash in the back yard for the next couple days for this one haha!

Radnor’s parents are amazing people who have been navigating the socialization landscape the last couple of years.

Radnor and her dad were chased down and accosted by an asshole with an out of control off leash dog.

They’ve avoided dog parks for all the obvious reasons, so how do you socialize a dog?

You give them opportunities to be awkward around pups and solid helper dogs, and let them handle the rest.

Get out of their way.

We recently announced a new Stay & Train Program that is available immediately at a reduced price. This program allows your dog to stay in the comfort of their own home, still taking adventures to the park, and bringing friends over for play time. This allows us to incorporate the socialization from the typical board and train without having to pay a facility for boarding, which we still offer as well. We can cover the same amount of modules in the same amount of time, and I will only book 2 at a time. I have committed to staying small with little overhead, and this is something I have done many times now with excellent results :) Stay & Trains will be limited to the Spring Hill, Thompsons Station, or South Franklin areas for now.

I saw a sign that said if it was 77 degrees it was 127 degrees on the asphalt. This was just a lie. It’s 93 today, and I would gladly walk on this sidewalk for a mile or two. I don’t! But I would.

My reasoning for teaching place has changed drastically over the last year.

The way I used to teach it was as a prevention for naughty behaviors like counter surfing, barking at the door, and separation anxiety. Not that thats the worst thing in the world.

Today I teach place to confirm that the dog and owner are using the same communication system.

I need them to be able to move together (structured walking), be still together (rest), the dog move independently of the owner (free, play & recall), and for the owner to be able to move independently of the dog (place / implied stay).

If I have that in low distraction, my goal is to bring it out into the real world where shit can pop off without notice.

Even though our boarding partners are amazing, we still have clients that prefer not to expose their dogs to a kennel environment. Our stay & train program works like an intensive series of private lessons. Your dog stays in your home for the duration of the program. We come for an hour a day Tuesday-Saturday and record and upload training sessions, and on Saturdays we do hand off lessons with the owner when possible. The Stay & Train programs are limited to clients in Spring Hill and Thompson’s Station.

What healthy play looks like…

Trauma & Bella have been two peas 🫛 in a pod for the last two weeks, and Trauma went home from her first four weeks of service dog training. We’re just getting started. I just wanted to give Bella, still wet from our creek play, a chance to play with her buddy one last time before she gets all big and is twice as big as trauma haha.

But she also has a dog on her side who advocates for her. I call him the little sheriff. He’s adorable. 🥰 @croutondabeat
Poor corgi guy about 45 secs in busts his tongue wide open going for the ball while it is still in my hand, and but thru his tongue against a pit bull head lol!

Just like your kids playing in the park, this is all part of life with dogs. Some really great friends we met today!
